Snow

It's a winter wonderland outside.  I can see the snow under the streetlight.

A recent AIDS vaccine trial designed to elicit a cellular response against the virus failed in clinical trials.  Then, the UN recently revised its estimates on the number of people infected with HIV.

The first piece of news is clearly bad.  The vaccine that had many scientists excited, has left many scientists confused.  Now we have seen both a humoral and cellular vaccine fail.  I'm not sure what will work.  What combination.  Innate immunity?  How do you elicit innate immunity?

The second piece of news is good, kinda.  The news says there are fewer people infected with AIDS than we expected, but it's not like anything has really changed.  The number of infected people didn't actually decrease.  AIDS is still an epidemic and I hope this doesn't decrease public support for HIV research.  However, if there are places where the money is needed, then I understand.  Ultimately, we are still just dealing with estimates, and I don't really know anything.

We need a cure.
